This course was for many years called - ‘Creating Digital resources in..’ but has now been updated and renamed.
It is a practical workshop for teachers who want some simple but effective e-learning / display techniques using a computer, whether they have an Interactive Whiteboard or just a multimedia projector.
All the techniques create resources which would happily sit on an Intranet, a VLE, or perhaps a Blog.
I supply a CD Rom of resources, exemplars and software and a booklet .
We will explore:
Photos - Virtual reality panoramas, linear panoramas, screen-capture and photo management. We explore uses of GoogleEarth and the implantation of our own photos into it.[GoogleEarth tours]
Video - we explore the use of a web camera. We learn how to copy You-Tube movies onto our computers. We can make slide-shows in video format.
Audio - we learn how to make our own audio files or edit those made by others. We learn enough to make an audio Podcast file.
Virtual visits - we learn how to make a simple virtual visit with ‘hotspots’.
We are introduced to Blogs and Wikis
I also show you how to find and copy/download resources off the Internet.
Social Mapping - we learn how to plot information on publicly available maps and sites
Social publishing - we learn to exploit Blogging and Tweeting for educational uses.
You have to bring a working laptop with administrative passwords which enable you to load software. You may wish to bring a camera to make the panoramas. I would advise you to bring an empty USB memory stick to copy other work.
Wherever possible I use free Open Source software
